  19. USR is having a large number of problems at this time, all in the
  20. customer satisfaction area. Customer support for Sportster is so
  21. slow that it may as well not exist, and upgrade time have been
  22. widely reported here as being 3-4 months for a simple ROM, and that
  23. came out with a product over 6 months old!

  25. The situation is only slightly better for the Courier, upgrades are
  26. no longer on the BBS and ftp site, and now I'm told they won't email
  27. them, either. You will get an upgrade eventually, but don't expect
  28. them to be timely any more.

  30. Upgrades are not currently available for PCMCIA Couriers (AFAIK) or
  31. machines other than MS-DOS and one other minor brand like Amiga. If
  32. you're running a UNIX server by chance, you may not be able to do
  33. updates.

  35. I've heard reports of serious problems with the TotalControl (tm?)
  36. racks, my ISP had problems with DOA and infant mortality on two
  37. racks at different sites. Unlikely that they were just a bad batch.
  38. There were other posts, I didn't save them.

  40. I believe that USR has outgrown its ability to do support and QA,
  41. and that you are better off to select another brand of modem at this
  42. time. I haven't heard anything bad about Motorola support in the
  43. USA, although every vendor has problems of some kind somewhere in
  44. the world.

  46. I would not use USR for anything mission critical at this time.
